What to balance your territories on

There is no single right weight. The best choice depends on what each person in a territory will do.

People or households

Best when territories are about reach: canvassing, surveys, franchise areas, or any job where the number of possible customers is what counts.

Household income

Adds up the income of every household in the territory. Good when buying power matters more than head count.

Your own numbers

Customers, sales, leads or anything else in your proprietary file. This is the closest match to how your business really works, because it counts what you actually have.

Land size, or number of places

Land size suits rural routes and service areas where driving time is the cost. Number of places simply gives each territory about the same number of ZIP codes or counties.

How close is close?

Areas cannot be split, so a big city ZIP code can tip a territory one way. We keep trying small moves until it will not get any closer, and we show you how far apart the biggest and smallest end up. Every area belongs to one territory only, with clean boundaries.
